"Pick it Up!" Program

On August 28th the Cornerstone Foundation once again hosted its "Pick it Up!" program. Nearly 200 inner-city Chicago children joined Charles at Meijer's Rolling Meadows location for some back-to-school shopping.

The children came from fourteen different Boys & Girls Clubs from Chicago Heights to Wrigleyville. The students were chosen through a competition called the Tillman Challenge where students were challenged to study history and geography - then answer basic questions regarding the studied material. Those with the top scores participated in the "Pick it Up!" program.

Upon arrival each child was given a Cornerstone Foundation t-shirt, Meijer water bottle and mini-football and their very own "Pick it Up!" shopping list. In not time, the children became seasoned Meijer shoppers.

Charles joined in fun as he and the children roamed the aisles of Meijer searching for the latest back-to-school fashions and much needed school supplies.

When the final item was scanned, the Cornerstone Foundation had spent more than $10,000 on providing over 1,000 back-to-school supplies to these deserving children.
