Tillman’s 4th Annual Meijer Celebrity Gridiron Challenge a Huge Success
June 25th, 2010
On Saturday, June 19th, Lake Zurich High School played host to Charles Tillman’s 4th Annual Meijer Celebrity Gridiron Challenge. Celebrity quarterbacks, made up of current and former Chicago Bears as well as some additional Chicago area celebrities, teamed up with 16 teams of “Average Joes” to put on the annual Flag Football tournament. Chicago International Trucks, Coca-Cola, Fifth Third Bank, Meijer, Miller Lite and the Omni Chicago Hotel were proud sponsors of this year’s event.
The action packed day began at 10a.m. when teams met up with their celebrity quarterbacks and set out on a quest for bragging rights and the 2010 championship trophy. As game plans hit the turf and players scouted the competition, one team emerged as the gridiron favorite. Led by Jason Burns, a former running back with the Cincinnati Bengals, Greyfield Legacies would emerge as the 2010 Meijer Celebrity Gridiron Challenge Champions.
“Today is all about football and fun for a good cause,” Tillman stated. “We get to come out, play QB, mix-it-up with friends and have some fun. I’d like to say thanks to Meijer and our sponsors, the fans and my friends for all the support they’ve shown the foundation by coming out. With events like this, we can continue to grow as a foundation, promoting organ and tissue donation awareness in Illinois and beyond. But right now, I’m about to throw some TD’s.”
Proceeds from the 4th Annual Meijer Celebrity Gridiron Challenge will benefit the Charles Tillman Cornerstone Foundation, whose mission is to provide opportunities and resources to children or their families who are in need. Since 2005, Charles Tillman's charitable efforts have impacted the lives of over one million Chicago-area children.
As fans filled Lake Zurich High School’s stadium to watch players take to the turf, celebrity quarterbacks signed autographs and youngsters were invited to register to be a part of on-field activities and win prizes, including an iPod Touch. The Jesse White Tumblers provided some mid-day entertainment, highlighting their athletic talents as celebrities and fans looked on. Trainers from Athlete’s Performance were also on-hand to provide fans with proper athletic training information.
Attendees were also invited to register to become an organ and tissue donor as a Proclamation from the Governor announced that June 19th will be known as the Charles Tillman Family Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Day.
