Charles Unveils Two Unique Lockers
December 22nd, 2009

Charles Tillman, cornerback for the Chicago Bears, unveiled two unique lockers on behalf of his Cornerstone Foundation at Children's Memorial Hospital.  The lockers, each dubbed “Charles’ Locker,” are designed to enrich the lives of chronically and critically ill children by providing them and their families access to notebook computers, DVD players, gaming systems and others items to help pass the time while undergoing treatment and recovery.

The initial items for “Charles’ Lockers” at Children’s Memorial Hospital were purchased through generous donations from Chevrolet and Fifth Third Bank.  Chevrolet made their donation in the names of several prominent local media members who recently participated in a challenge with Tillman to see who could pack the most gifts in the back of the all-new 2010 Chevrolet Traverse.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity to provide these children and their families access to these items, in hopes to help them pass the time as they are receiving treatment and recovering,” Tillman stated.  “I remember being at the hospital with my daughter and it seemed like time stood still, as we waited for her to recover.”

One of the lockers will be placed on the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) floor at Children’s Memorial Hospital and the second locker will be placed on the cardiology and general surgery floor. These lockers are expected to service nearly 130,000 chronically and critically ill children and their families in 2010.

Donations are also being accepted to help fill “Charles’ Locker.”  Local residents are encouraged to mail new teen movies (G, PG, PG-13) and games for Xbox, Playstation 2 and 3 and Nintendo Wii to: Lisa Austin, Children's Memorial Hospital, Family Services, 2300 Children’s Plaza, Box 130, Chicago, IL 60614-3363.

The Cornerstone Foundation also intends to launch "Charles' Lockers" at the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital and Ronald McDonald® Children's Hospital of Loyola University Medical Center in the fall of 2010.

Since 2005, Charles Tillman's charitable efforts have impacted the lives of over one million Chicago-area children.
